Job Description
As a Senior Mechanical Design Engineer, you will play a key role in delivering high‑quality mechanical building services solutions across a wide range of sectors. You will support project leadership, mentor junior engineers, and provide strong technical input throughout all design stages.
Responsibilities
Leading mechanical design packages from concept through detailed design
Coordinating with internal and external stakeholders including Clients, Architects, Contractors, and multidisciplinary consultants
Attending and contributing to design team meetings and workshops
Undertaking calculations, system sizing, and producing technical reports
Conducting site inspections and feeding back into the design process
Supporting project planning, programme management, and commercial targets
Working closely with other engineering disciplines to deliver fully coordinated MEP solutions
Providing guidance and mentorship to junior and intermediate mechanical engineers
Ensuring compliance with relevant standards, regulations, and best practice guidelines
Requirements
5+ years’ experience within a UK Building Services Consultancy
Strong understanding of mechanical building services, including HVAC, LTHW/CHW, public health interfaces, and low‑carbon solutions
Proficiency in relevant industry software (e.g., Hevacomp, IES, CFD tools desirable)
Working knowledge of CAD/Revit and coordinated MEP modelling workflows
Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Building Services Engineering, or related discipline
Strong understanding of UK building regulations, sustainability standards, and industry best practice
Up‑to‑date knowledge of Health & Safety and Environmental considerations
Excellent communication skills and confidence working directly with clients and design partners
Progress towards Chartership (CIBSE/IMechE) is highly advantageous
