Homeownership Officer
Location: East London
Rate: £27 per hour umbrella
Contract: 3-month ongoing contract
Working Pattern: Monday to Friday
Working Arrangement: Hybrid – usually Tuesdays in the office, with the rest working from home

We are currently recruiting for an experienced Homeownership / Leasehold Management Officer to join a housing team in East London on a 3-month ongoing contract.
Leasehold Management experience is essential, and candidates must have proven experience undertaking Section 20 consultations.

Key Responsibilities
  • Calculate, notify and bill estimated and actual service charges, including major works, shared ownership rent and ground rent.
    • Ensure charges are calculated and recovered in accordance with the terms of individual leases and relevant legislation.
    • Undertake Section 20 consultations under the Landlord and Tenant Act 1985 (as amended), ensuring full compliance with legislation and lease requirements.
    • Provide advice, information and guidance to leaseholders, shared owners and housing staff on service charges, major works, lease terms and relevant legislation.
    • Deal effectively with enquiries, disputes and challenges relating to service charges and major works.
    • Liaise with relevant internal teams to resolve complex homeowner queries.
    • Assist Collection Officers in maximising the recovery of homeowner rents, service charges, major works and other related income.
    • Maintain accurate records and ensure financial information is processed correctly.
    • Support the financial viability of the Housing Revenue Account (HRA).
Essential ExperienceTo be considered for this role, you must have:
  • Proven leasehold management experience within a housing association or local authority environment.
    • Essential experience of Section 20 consultation and the requirements of the Landlord and Tenant Act 1985.
    • Strong knowledge of service charges, major works and leasehold legislation.
    • Experience dealing with leaseholders and shared owners.
    • Experience handling service charge enquiries, disputes and challenges.
    • Understanding of rent, service charge and major works recovery.
    • Excellent communication, customer service and organisational skills.
    • Ability to manage a varied workload and work accurately to deadlines.

Please note: Section 20 consultation experience and leasehold management experience are essential for this position.
