Senior Assessment & Review Officer – SEND
Location: Fully Remote
Rate: £369.98 per day
Hours: Full-time, 37 hours per week
Contract: Locum

Pertemps Social Care are currently recruiting for an experienced Senior Assessment & Review Officer to join a Local Authority SEND service in Somerset on a fully remote basis.

This is a senior-level opportunity for an experienced SEND professional with strong knowledge of EHC needs assessments, annual reviews, reassessments and phase transfers. The successful candidate will provide senior oversight within the Assessment and Review Team, supporting officers with complex casework while ensuring statutory processes are completed accurately and within legal timescales.

Key Responsibilities
  • Monitor and track EHC needs assessments, annual reviews, reassessments and phase transfers, ensuring statutory deadlines are met.
    • Identify delays, risks and barriers to progression and take appropriate action to resolve them.
    • Provide advice, guidance and coaching to Assessment and Reviewing Officers on complex cases and SEND legislation.
    • Support officers in making appropriate decisions and progressing cases effectively.
    • Monitor team performance and promote accountability for statutory casework.
    • Undertake quality assurance of EHC Plans, casework and decision-making, ensuring consistency and compliance.
    • Manage a small caseload of complex, sensitive and high-profile cases.
    • Support cases involving complaints, mediation and SEND Tribunal activity where required.
    • Work closely with families, schools, health professionals and social care colleagues to achieve positive outcomes.
    • Identify areas of risk and escalate concerns appropriately.
    • Support managers with performance monitoring, reporting and service improvement activity.
    • Contribute to the development and improvement of SEND assessment and review processes.
Essential Experience
  • Significant experience working with SEND statutory processes and EHC Plans.
    • Strong knowledge of the Children and Families Act 2014 and SEND Code of Practice.
    • Extensive experience managing complex SEND casework.
    • Experience providing advice, guidance, coaching or support to colleagues.
    • Strong understanding of statutory timescales and SEND compliance.
    • Excellent organisation and case management skills.
    • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
    • Ability to analyse complex information and make sound, evidence-based decisions.
    • Ability to manage competing priorities and work to tight statutory deadlines.
Desirable
  • Previous experience undertaking quality assurance of SEND casework or EHC Plans.
    • Experience in a senior, supervisory or team leadership capacity.
    • Experience dealing with SEND complaints, mediation or Tribunal cases.
    • Relevant qualification in education, SEND, social care or a related discipline.
